Focused on Helping Employers Manage Reasonable Accommodation Requests, Book Continues to Impress Industry Experts
Newbury Park, Calif. (August 21, 2017) The North American Book Awards (NABA) announced this month that Rachel Shaw’s new book “The Disabled Workforce: What the ADA Never Anticipated” has received a Silver Medal in their 2017 competition for outstanding books. In addition to this respected award, the book has also garnered praise from multiple nationally recognized reviewers as well as from peers in the Human Resources industry.
Each year, NABA recognizes exemplary books for their excellence across various genres. Its mission is to showcase books of distinction amongst the crowd of more than 19 million books available on Amazon. NABA judges were impressed by Shaw’s debut book, which won in the category of “Business Leadership and Management.” Shaw, who has widely been considered an expert in the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and California’s Fair Employment Housing Act (FEHA) has helped hundreds of public-and private-sector employers manage their most challenging personnel issues.
“To be able to share what I’ve learned, and win an award for it is an honor,” said Shaw. “I’ve been doing this work for almost two decades because I think it’s important, so I’m thrilled to receive this recognition from NABA.”
Her book reveals tried-and-true strategies as well as step-by-step processes for managing reasonable accommodation requests and the myriad of challenges surrounding it including leave management abuse, discipline issues and psychological disabilities. Published in April this year, the book has been well-received by national reviewers including Kirkus Reviews which calls Shaw’s book “smart, comprehensive … both a champion of the disabled and a mentor for businesspeople looking to avoid fraudsters,” and, “An invaluable guidebook to disability law for American employers.”
“The Disabled Workforce” also holds a 5-star rating on Amazon, with a reader-reviewer claiming is it “a must-have for every HR department, leaves/disability management desk, and workers’ compensation carrier.”
